The Great Depression ended in 1941, amid rising economic activity and employment, and this led to a huge increase in coin mintages. Philadelphia more than doubled its output of quarter dollars to a figure never before imagined for this denomination. This issue was widely saved by the roll, and examples are very common in Mint State. So, I got bored today and decided to look through a roll of WW2 quarters that I had lying around. Anyway, according to the Fourth edition (yes, I know there's a fifth) of The Cherry Picker's Guide, the 1941-s has at least three mint mark varieties. Anyway, the roll had eight 1941-s quarters, and the breakdown on them was: Normal, small S - 1.

Grading System
Extremely fine- The hair lines look sharp. The only signs of wear are on the eagle's breast and at the top of the eagle's legs.
MS 60 uncirculated- There are no signs of wear. The coin has luster, but there may be a few stains, abrasions, or surface marks.
MS 65 gem uncirculated- There is strong luster and eye appeal. A few light contact marks may be present but they are barely noticeable.
PR 65 proof- There are no flaws to this coin. A few blemishes may be present.

With the United States entering World War II late in the year and the economy roaring out of the Great Depression, production of 1941 Washington quarters was up significantly over any of the previous years in the series. Over 100 million Washington quarters were struck in 1941 across the three mints operating then – Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Dramatic increases in the mintage of Washington quarters, as well as other coin series in production at the time, helped to flood circulation with many new coins and began to crowd out the presence of older coin designs still in circulation at the time.

The 1941 proof Washington quarter is included in few collections, but makes a beautiful addition in any all-inclusive Washington quarter series run.
